Our Experience
When ELM was five years old, she fell backwards from her bike and injured her tailbone. Over a month later, Jon's co-parent sought medical attention for ELM, based on an allegation that she might have been sexually abused after falling from her bike. Due to lack of evidence, Jon was never charged with a crime or investigated. Despite nine years worth of extensive documentation stating that Jon never abused ELM, including medical reports, CPS records, sexual assault clinic records, a lie detector test, a psychosexual evaluation, three separate Court orders and an extensive Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) investigation, the false narrative that Jon abused ELM when she was five years old continued to be declared by his co-parent.
Over the course of our decade long court case, Jon's co-parent also fabricated that ELM had been diagnosed with Autism, multiple allergies, dietary issues and other medical conditions, without any medical records or reports to substantiate her claims.
As a result, ELM was entered into mental health therapy with eight different providers for the treatment of sexual abuse. These providers were all told that Jon was not to have any involvement in ELM's therapy, despite the fact that Jon had joint-custody and ELM had regular residential time with us. When therapy was finally court ordered for ELM with Jon, ELM declined to participate as she was over the age of 13 (the age of independent decision making for mental health services in the state of Washington). ELM has chosen to no longer have contact with us due to her false belief that she was abused by her dad at five years old. As a result of this ultimate tragedy, our family has been devastated by the false accusations made by Jon's co-parent and ELM fully believes she is a survivor of sexual abuse that never occurred.
Our Hope
Jon and I hope that what happened to our family may never destroy and traumatize another home again. This is the reason for our ELM Foundation. We continue to hold hope that one day ELM will understand the truth that she was never abused by her dad and she will realize that we did everything possible within our means and ability, to try to help save her. Jon and I hold many loving, special memories of the ELM that we both knew for the first twelve years of her life, as well as the loving family and home the three of us built together.
